Meet the Book
This is the book’s own stage: Harry Houdini — from his own photograph — stands on the stage, while his two prosecutions are read aloud in Ryan’s voice: the case against Robert-Houdin, the French master whose very name he took, and his exposé of burglars, pickpockets, bunco men, and swindlers. What’s Inside
- Two complete books: The Unmasking of Robert-Houdin (1908) — Introduction and Chapters I–XI complete — and The Right Way to Do Wrong (1906) — Preface and chapters complete.
- About 6 hours 18 minutes of narration — Ryan reads the book aloud in English, page by page, in a reading room you can follow with your eyes, while Houdini’s portrait stands on the stage.
- The prosecutor’s case — the beloved Memoirs charged, letter by letter from the record, with claiming other men’s inventions; and the swindlers’ trade exposed to put honest folks on their guard.
- The barcode rides every stage frame — scan any moment to come back to this bookstore.
These are the public-domain texts: Houdini’s The Unmasking of Robert-Houdin (1908) and The Right Way to Do Wrong (1906), presented as a talking hologram book. Every copy opens with an honest disclaimer that labels the Unmasking for what it is: a prosecution as much as a biography. Robert-Houdin’s own side rests in his Memoirs, for the reader who would weigh both. The narration is a synthesized English reading (Piper — Ryan) of these texts, made for this edition. Editor: Franklin Langston.
